Adaptive Optimization (AO) was on for both of these tests. However, AO doesn't really do anything until data is frequently used and then copied to the SSD tier (tier 0). This was just a real quick, not very scientific test to see if performance changed.

Environment:
Two hosts (Dell PowerEdge R720xd with ~12 1.2TB 10k RPM 2.5in drives)
HP VSA 11 with AO
VMware ESXi 5.5
about 4 VM's on this volume, mostly low use servers.
