Song Show Plus 5.X

I recently had some trouble with Song Show Plus 5.5 so I thought I would post the information I got here.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\R-Technics\SongShowPlus\Songs\indexes

When moving from one computer to the other try to use the backup/restore utility in Song Show Plus. It didn't work for me and I had a horrible time trying to get all of the songs onto the new computer without it, so give it a try first. BACKUP YOUR SONG DIRECTORY (see above for location) BEFORE DELETING/FORMATING YOUR FILES EVEN IF YOU HAVE A BACKUP JUST IN CASE SOMETHING GOES WRONG. This is the folder that contains the actual songs files and is essential if you lose or delete your official backup file. I couldn't get the backup utility to work so I can't verify that it even backs up your songs. It might only backup databases and settings. So if you move computers copy your song folder to a disk, CD, or external hard drive. Then copy all songs from old song folder to new song folder on your new computer.

Note: New song folder may be in a different location then the old song folder if you have a different Operating System on your new PC (Windows XP). As in my case, Windows 98 to Windows XP.

When copying old songs to new computer, copy all songs but not the song directory or song indexes. Doing so may cause an error. It did for me. Once all songs are in the right place, open up songshowplus and go to "Tools>Database Utilities>Rebuild Indexes". After it finishes close and reopen songshowplus. This worked for me. It took me hours to find out that the place song files is stored changes from one operating system to the next. I hope this saves you hours of stress.
