Sysvol domain name share empty after Windows 2008 Upgrade

Last Updated: 6/2/11

Problem:
Domain controller sysvol domain share is empty after upgrade to windows server 2008 from server 2003. Not empty from Windows 7 or Windows 2008 machines, but folder is empty when viewed from Server 2003 or Windows XP.

Cause:
Windows versions prior to Windows Vista (Windows 2000, XP, Server 2003) do not support nested junction points. Your server was probably a Windows NT or Windows 2000 server originally and has been upgraded to server 2003 and then server 2008.

Solution:
Downoad this program

find the junction point for c:\windows\sysvol\sysvol\<domain name> that points to c:\winnt\sysvol\domain and delete it. Then recreate it with a new destination of c:\windows\sysvol\domain.
