Acronis ABR11 Bluescreen with Veritas Netbackup

Last Updated: 1/4/12

Problem:
You experience a blue screen stop error 0x00000050 with any combination of the following products:

- Acronis Backup and Recovery 10 [ABR10]
- Acronis Backup and Recovery 11 [ABR11]
- Symantec Netbackup 6.5
- Veritas Backup Exec 10.x or older (9.0, 8.0, etc...)

The bluescreen stop error normally occurs during the installation of Acronis software or when a backup task is started.

Cause:
This is a conflict between the snapman.sys snapshot driver installed by Acronis and the otman5.sys open transaction manager driver installed by Veritas/Symantec.

Solution:
Remove Netbackup and/or Veritas and then run the OTM removal tool from Symantec

If you need Netbackup installed, try reinstalling after everything is cleaned up. The otman5.sys driver may not be included with a reinstall. If the driver returns, then uninstall again and look for special setup flags to exclude OTM or VSP during the next reinstall attempt.
