Free Computer Software that Everyone Can use!

Last Updated: 11/28/13

LibreOffice or OpenOffice - This is free office software. They are both similar. I prefer LibreOffice, but they both work well. Use: documents, flyers, labels, diagrams, spreadsheets, etc... Both office suites can export to PDF which is a good format for distributing documents for others to read. If you want to share a document for editing, just share the original file, don't save as PDF.  http://www.libreoffice.org/    http://www.openoffice.org/

after you install libre office, search the web for tutorials: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rldtb_Iqlfc

Paint.NET - Free Image editor software. A wonderful free program that is good at many photo and image tasks.  You can use Paint.NET to place text on images and other things. Text is not easily editable after putting on an image. If you need that use GIMP   http://www.getpaint.net/

GIMP 2.8 - GIMP (Graphic Image Manipulation Program) is good for editing and designing images. It is more powerful than Paint.net, however it probably has a bigger learning curve. use web searches and youtube videos to help you learn how to use this one. I prefer this program when designing banners or advertising images from scratch. Mostly because GIMP keeps each text item in its own layer in a way that can edit later.  http://getgimp.com

PDFCreator - This program adds a virtual printer to your computer. Anytime you are viewing a webpage or document or any type of file, and you want to share it with someone, print it to PDFCreator and it will save the item as a PDF. This makes it much easier to share with others via email or the web. PDF documents are the preferred format when sharing a document for others to read! If you want others to be able to edit the document choose a different format. PDF is good for distributing coupons, flyers, memos, announcements, books, etc....    http://www.pdfforge.org/download

Don't forget to keep your computer protected with free antivirus software too!
