GlobalStar SAT Fi-2 Review

Last Updated: 1/21/19

Great idea, really bad execution

I am an IT professional with 10+ years of experience. I cannot get my GlobalStar Sat-Fi2 to check email from our Microsoft exchange server. I cannot browse the internet consistently. Support has not been much help. They have to escalate anything beyond the most basic tickets, and they don't respond same day. Today they acknowledged an outage with their email services, but could not confirm if it was affecting only Exchange or IMAP as well. Data plans start at 5 Megabytes not Gigabytes, Megabytes. You are required to use their special smart phone app for everything because the data cap is so tiny.
Am I expecting too much from satellite? I don't think so. Viasat has roof mounted satellite internet solutions that work reliable and their data plans are measured in gigabytes. My guess is that GlobalStar prioritized having a small form factor over actual real-life performance.

My suggestions:

1) Make hardware larger (better RF), but reliable,
2) create data plans with realistic data limits,
3) Find a way to provide better/reliable email proxies or do away with them.
