Netmotion (or other VPN client) will not connect on Dell Laptop

Last Updated: 2/2/20

Problem:  Netmotion will not connect while using Dell G5 gaming laptop.

The symptoms are no internet connectivity after following the standard procedures for installing Netmotion, but Ping does work.  After some teamwork and a call to Netmotion, we determined that the Windows service called “Killer Network Service” interferes with VPN connectivity.  This issue is likely not isolated to Netmotion.

The current fix is to stop the Killer Network Service, set the startup to disabled, reboot, and reconnect to Netmotion.  We notified Netmotion support so they are now aware of the issue.

This post got us on the right track: https://www.reddit.com/r/meraki/comments/8638kv/client_vpn_with_killer_network_service/

This is Killer Networking’s official documentation, but this fix is untested by me thus far: https://support.killernetworking.com/knowledge-base/no-internet-access-when-connected-affects-ethernet-and-or-wi-fi/
