I recently ran into an issue where my Dell Vostro 1000 would not read an 8 GB SD card. I could not find a quick solution so I turned to google to help me out. After searching for a while, I found this website: http://www.antifart.com/2007/12/31/dell-vostro-1000-sdhc-driver.html. I installed the updated card reader driver recommended on that page. Now the built in card reader in my Dell Vostro 1000 works great. If you are having issues give this a try.
