AVG 7 Restart Loop

Last Updated: 2/15/10

If you install AVG 7 Free Edition antivirus software on Windows XP and then restart to find that it now won't boot up properly, you've found the right page. This is caused by an incompatibility with Roxio Easy CD Creator 6. To fix the problem, boot into safe mode by pushing F8 during the boot up process. Select "Safe mode". When in safe mode uninstall AVG 7 from control panel. You should be able to restart into normal mode after that.

After getting into normal mode go here and download the update:
http://www.roxio.com/en/support/MSERR/CDR4_7.jhtml

This should solve the problem. If not you have two options, remove Roxio and then install AVG again, or never install AVG 7 again. If the previous update didn't work, hopefully one of the two companies will release an update that does fix this issue. AVG 7 should work with Roxio 7, but I'm not 100% sure.

Update 4/27/05 - Avg now warns you when installed on a system that has an old version of roxio. The update is only needed for Roxio 6. Ignore the warning if you have Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.
