Dreamweaver CS3 Crashes and Will Not Restart

Last Updated: 2/25/10

This actually happened to me. I was editing a CSS file in Dreamweaver CS3. I hit clt+s to save the file and, BAM... Dreamweaver crashed and closed. I tried to repeatedly to reopen Dreamweaver but it would not open. I restarted my computer and tried to open Dreamweaver but it still would not open.

I did some searching on Google and after putting in the right keywords I found this "Read Me" file on Adobe's site. Quoting from the article: "Crash in Windows when CSS file size is exactly 8192 bytes, 16383 bytes, or specific larger sizes. Dreamweaver crashes in Windows if you make an edit to a CSS file that changes the size of the file to exactly 8191 bytes or an increment of 8191 bytes. In addition, Dreamweaver won't restart unless you change the size of the CSS file. To change the file size, open the CSS file in another text editor and insert a character or two, including whitespace characters such as spaces and tabs".

So, I checked my CSS file size and it was exactly 8192 bytes. I opened the file in notepad, added some text, saved it and then Dreamweaver would open again because the file size was greater than 8192 bytes.

I wonder what the odds of a CSS file being EXACTLY 8192 bytes is? I checked the rest of my CSS files and found only one that was close, it was 8190 bytes (very close). Anyways, I doubt this will ever happen to me again but if it happens to you, you will know what to do.
